Earlier this month I was contacted by a site called Mootis – a self-described new “Twitter on Topic-style social media platform for the legal services marketplace.”
The site was looking for early adopters to test out its new service.
I confess I hadn’t tried it out until today, but I’ve just logged on for the first time to check it out.
Mootis has now officially launched (as of January 15 2015), and as a supporter of new ideas in the legal space, I feel it deserves a mention.
To appeal to word-loving lawyers, Mootis differs from Twitter in that it offers space for 500 characters rather than 140.
My initial feeling was that it would be a tough sell to persuade users to sign up to yet another social media service.
I find it hard enough to devote enough time to my two preferred networks – LinkedIn and Twitter – around my client work.
On closer inspection, though, I can see that Mootis offers a number of neat sign-up options such as logging in using your Twitter account, which makes access less onerous than you might imagine.
Mootis is also an attractive looking site – my homepage is below – and there are a fair amount of people signed up and using the site, which is impressive only a few days after its launch.
Gaining traction for any new business is hard, but the desire for a less cluttered space in which to express more nuanced views may point to a rosy future for Mootis.
Mootis was launched by a barrister, Bill Braithwaite, based at Manchester’s Exchange Chambers.
