Firstly, there are two directories-themed sessions at the annual Legal Marketing Association conference in Austin, Texas, from April 12-13 2016.
In “Quantifying and Driving the ROI in Legal Directories and Awards Submissions”, the presenters – Benjamin Greenzweig from Momentum and Arielle Lapiano of Paul Hastings – will reveal the results of research conducted by the LMA and Law Firm Media Professionals into how much time and effort law firms spend on legal directories.
That session, on day two of the conference, is followed by “Maximizing Directory & Awards Efforts: How to Create Better Submissions, Leverage Rankings, and Repurpose Matters” – in the words of the organizers, a “hands-on workshop featuring a set of top five tips from four directories about what it takes to get better results on submissions”
The day after the LMA conference, I’ll be heading to Chicago (pictured) to speak at a directories seminar organized by the Legal & Professional Services Council, formerly Legal PR Chicago.
Unlike most directories-related panel sessions, which focus on tips for law firms to improve their submissions, the emphasis here is on how law firms can organize themselves internally to manage the increasingly demanding annual directories effort.
Here is the LPSC event description:
“With hundreds or even thousands of opportunities for law firms and lawyers to be
ranked, awarded or recognized, nominations “season” now runs year-round. Participation
requires huge investments by lawyers and law firm marketing departments, and striking
the right balance of resource allocation for return can be challenging. Join LPSC over
lunch on Thursday, April 14 when our panel will explore different models for managing
efforts with publishers of legal rankings and awards, including staffing, insourcing and
outsourcing, policy development, technology, measurement and the future of law firm
rankings and awards.”
Kate Slaasted of Kirkland & Ellis will chair the session, which will also feature Mary Umsted, the rankings manager at Sidley & Austin.
Thirdly, “How Legal Purchasing is Impacted by Surveys, Rankings, & Directories” takes place at the Hilton New York Midtown hotel on May 4-5 2016.
